About This Data
Property tax data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS). It includes the median real estate taxes paid, median home values, and effective tax rates for every county in the United States.
The effective tax rate is calculated as the median property tax divided by the median home value. This provides a standardized way to compare property tax burden across counties, regardless of differences in home values.
